Bassist Mike D’Antonio began looking for a band after his band Overcast was disbanded. He teamed up with guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz after his own band Aftershock stopped performing. After recruiting a few more friends and even family members, Killswitch Engage was formed. The name comes from an episode of the popular television series “The X-Files”. Killswitch Engage’s 2004 album The End of Heartache launched their career. The End of Heartache peaked at number 21 on the Billboard 200. It was certified gold in December 2007. The title track off The End of Heartache was nominated for the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.

Killswitch Engage is considered by many to be a pioneer in the metalcore genre. MTV named them one of “The Greatest Metal Bands of All Time” and “one of the founders of metalcore” in 2007.
