Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island the alternative rock-folk band was the brainchild of singer-songwriter John J. McCauley. While McCauley was growing up, he taught himself to play drums, piano, guitar, and pedal steel. McCauley initially performed solo compositions becoming known for his shaky vocal style.

After touring the country solo John eventually joined up with Christopher Dale Ryan (bass, vocals), Dennis Michael Ryan (drums, vocals), and Ian Patrick O’Neil (guitar, vocals) to form Deer Tick. In 2007 the band released their debut album War Elephant which would quickly sell out of print due to label issues. The band would quickly rebound with Born on Flag Day released in 2009 which Rolling Stone called the “Country-Rock breakthrough of the Year”.

Anchored by McCauley’s signature vocals Deer Tick tickets attract fans from all around the world. After the release of their third album The Black Dirt Sessions in June of 2010, the band made their first network television appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman the next week.

Deer Tick has produced numerous memorable songs over their run like the eclectic “These Old Shoes” and raucous “The Bump”. Their song Goodbye Dear Friend was featured on the television show Sons of Anarchy. From mournful tunes to upbeat jams Deer Tick has a bit of something for everyone.
