Aaron Neville is a legendary R&B and soul vocalist from New Orleans, Louisiana who began making an impact on the pop music landscape in the 1960s. His first single, “Over You,” was released in 1960, but it was his sophomore release, “Tell It Like It Is,” that launched Neville into pop stardom. “Tell It Like It Is” reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 charts shortly after it was released, in addition to an already impressive number one on Billboard’s Rhythm & Blues Singles chart. In 2010, “Tell It Like It Is” was ranked number 391 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
After releasing two solo albums, Neville formed the R&B group the Neville Brothers along with his three brothers, Charles, Cyril and Art. Aaron Neville tickets continued to rise in demand as the Neville Brothers released their debut self-titled album in 1987 with the help of Capitol Records. While the Neville Brothers continued to tour, perform, and release music until two final shows in 2012 and 2015, Aaron Neville also continued to work on his solo project. Neville released his third solo album Orchid in the Storm in 1986 and continued releasing albums every few years until his latest, Apache, in 2016. As of 2020, Aaron Neville has released nineteen solo albums. Neville has also collaborated with other well-known artists, including on a hit duet with Linda Ronstadt entitled “Don’t Know Much.”
Apache, Neville’s most recent solo album, marks an expansion of the crooner’s signature sound. Based on a funkier, more edgy side of R&B than he is traditionally known for, Neville calls Apache “the other side of Aaron.” Even after over 55 years of performing, Neville shows no signs of slowing down.
