Adele’s Career
Adele Adkins debuted on the music scene when she released her premiere album, 19, in 2008 which featured the single “Chasing Pavements.” Being awarded Best New Artist at the 2009 Grammy Awards helped to cement her status as a rising star in the music industry. The English pop vocalist’s sophomore album, 21, followed in 2011 and won Pop Vocal Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Her album 21 topped the Billboard charts in the United States for 24 weeks and the album shattered records by selling the most copies worldwide in a two-year span since Michael Jackson’s Thriller (1983).
The opening track on the album, “Rolling in the Deep” became Adele’s first No.1 single in the U.S. and Rolling Stone ranked the track as No. 1 on their “50 Best Singles of 2011.” The next year, “Rolling in the Deep” won Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Short Form Music Video at the Grammy Awards.
Adele’s success continued into the mid-2010s with the release of “Skyfall,” the theme song of the James Bond film of the same name. It was nominated and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2013. The singer released two other albums 25 (2015) and 30 (2021) to critical acclaim.
