The Creation of Dead & Company
Dead & Company was formed in 2015 by singer-songwriter John Mayer and former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann. Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti of Fare Thee Well and RatDog, joined the group too. Together, they bring the Grateful Dead’s iconic music and good vibes back to the stage.
The band played its first show on Oct. 31, 2015, at Madison Square Garden and announced a full tour shortly after. Visiting New York for a show soon, check out our Madison Square Garden event guide for travel and arrival tips. Dead & Co. has toured consistently since then, entertaining nearly four million fans across 164 concerts. One of the most unique things about the band is their commitment to the entire Grateful Dead songbook as they have performed 143 distinct tracks during their time together. Setlist databases show the band has rotated well over a hundred distinct Grateful Dead songs across its run, illustrating the group’s deep dive into the Dead catalog (setlist.fm stats).
The Impact Off-Stage
Between record-setting performances, like their show at Wrigley Field in which they set the all-time concert attendance mark, Dead & Co. has stayed committed to their efforts to give back. Since 2015, Dead & Company has helped to eliminate the use of single-use plastics at their shows and raised more than $3 million to support climate justice and carbon reduction projects. Live-event press releases and reporting note that Dead & Company has become a record‑breaking stadium act — having played to millions of fans across hundreds of shows and even breaking Wrigley Field’s all‑time concert attendance record (MLB press release on Citizens Bank Park date and tour stats). Fans are encouraged to use public transit or rideshare when available, which helps reduce event-day congestion and emissions across stadium and amphitheater stops.

How to Choose Your Seats for Stadiums and Amphitheaters
Dead & Company’s final tour hits large stadiums, amphitheaters, and outdoor parks. Sightlines and sound can vary by venue and section, so weigh these quick tips.
- Upper deck seats offer strong value in big parks and can still deliver great views of the light show.
- Amphitheater pavilions often have covered sections that protect you from sun and rain.
- Premium seats and VIP packages trade less frequently on resale, so buy earlier if you want aisle seats, club access, or exclusive perks.
- Compare out-the-door prices, fees, and parking, not just the base price.
New to timing your buy, read TicketSmarter’s guide on when is the best time to buy concert tickets and keep an eye on prices in the 2 to 3 weeks before your date. Industrywide, demand for live music rebounded strongly after the pandemic: Live Nation reported record 2023 revenues and tens of millions of concertgoers, underscoring why large stadium and amphitheater runs (and dynamic pricing on resale markets) remain common. If inventory tightens, same-day deals can appear, but availability is never guaranteed.
