The 2023 World Series begins this week with the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks battling for the title. Both teams advanced from the Wild Card and played a seven-game league championship series. Will they have the stamina to go all the way?

Let’s take a look back at how each team got to this point and see what is at stake in the final games of the 2023 MLB season.

American League Champion Rangers

The Texas Rangers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles before knocking off the 2022 World Champion Houston Astros to win the American League pennant. This is their third appearance in the World Series but the Rangers are one of six teams still looking for their first victory. They did earn a home-field advantage meaning that the first two and last two (if necessary) will be held at Globe Life Field in Arlington.

ALCS MVP Adolis Garcia has the hot bat for the Rangers with five home runs and 15 RBIs against the Astros. He went 10-for-28 in that span with a grand slam in Game 6. His 15 RBIs are a single-series playoff record.

National League Champion Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks paved their own unique path winning just 84 games in the regular season. The Diamondbacks earned a Wild Card bid to the MLB Postseason and swept the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers in their first two series. They fell behind 0-2 in the NLCS and had to win games six and seven on the road against the ferocious Philadelphia Phillies. This will be the D-backs’ second World Series appearance in club history and they will host games 3 through 5 (as needed) at Chase Field in Phoenix.

A few of their top players to watch include rookie outfielder Corbin Carroll and second baseball Ketel Marte. Carroll led the Diamondbacks to a 4-2 victory against Philadelphia in Game 7 going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Marte earned NLCS MVP honors going 12-for-31 in the series with four doubles, a triple and three RBIs.
