The 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards took place this Wednesday and celebrated another commanding year for the genre. Luke Combs, Cody Johnson and Lainey Wilson were among the big 2022 CMA winners and Alan Jackson received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Let’s take a closer look at the 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards and see who is headed out on the road in 2023.

Entertainer of the Year: Luke Combs

In addition to picking up Album of the Year honors from Growin’ Up, Combs earned his second consecutive Entertainer of the Year award. He emerged from a competitive field that included Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood and Morgan Wallen. The 32-year-old from North Carolina starts the Luke Combs World Tour on March 25 with openers Riley Green and Lainey Wilson.

Female Vocalist of the Year: Lainey Wilson

Wilson led all nominees with six nods and took home the awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. This breakout award cycle follows the success of her 2021 album Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’ and hit single “Things a Man Oughta Know.” Although neither won a CMA Award, the latter was tabbed as Song of the Year at the 2021 Academy of Country Music Awards. Lainey Wilson will start 2023 on her Country With a Flare Tour before joining Combs on the road.

Male Vocalist of the Year: Chris Stapleton

The Kentucky native has been a constant on the road since Chris Stapleton’s All-American Road Show Tour began in 2017. The tour has included eight legs, the most recent of which ended in October. He will team up with country legend George Strait in the spring for a limited stadium tour with support from Little Big Town.

Single of the Year: Cody Johnson

The chart-topping 2021 hit “Til You Can’t” earned Cody Johnson Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year at the 2022 CMAs. The song is featured on Human: The Double Album, which was released in Oct. 2021. The song is certified double platinum after hitting No. 1 on the US Country and Us Country Airplay charts. Johnson was one of the CMT Artists of the Year along with Combs, Kane Brown, Carly Pearce and Walker Hayes. Cody Johnson is currently on tour with Randy Houser and has dates scheduled through July 2023.

Other Notable Winners
