In September 2023, Olivia Rodrigo announced that she would be embarking on the GUTS World Tour. The “vampire” singer’s debut arena tour kicks off Feb. 23 in Palm Springs, Calif. The tour will hit major cities across North America and also has stops scheduled for international cities like London, Amsterdam, and Berlin. The announcement came a day after Rodrigo won the award for Video Editing (“vampire”) at the 2023 MTV VMAs.

The Breeders, PinkPantheress and Chappell Roan will join Rodrigo for select dates during the North American leg of the tour. Remi Wolf will be opening for the pop singer during the European stops of her tour. The GUTS World Tour is only Rodrigo’s second touring venture following her wildly successful SOUR Tour in 2022, which focused on hitting theaters throughout the country. Read on for more details about this rising star and her 2024 GUTS World Tour.

Rodrigo’s Breakout Debut

Rodrigo’s smash hit, “driver’s license” was released in 2021, not long after the young actress signed with Geffen and Interscope Records. Her debut single would go on to break several records, including the most Spotify streams in a day for a non-holiday song with 15 million streams globally, and then extended the record the following day with more than 17 million streams globally.

The poignant power ballad was a blend of the genres of alt-pop and bedroom pop or lo-fi music. It received endless praise from established publications like Billboard, The Atlantic and Clash. Chris DeVille, a Stereogum critic, remarked in a 2021 review that the single mirrors the style of a Phoebe Bridgers song that ends as a “resplendent Folklore track,” showing Taylor Swift’s influence on Rodrigo.

The multi-platinum hit made Rodrigo the youngest artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also ranked third on Billboard’s “100 Greatest Song Bridges of the 21st Century.”

Child Actor to Music Star

Born an only child in Murrieta, Calif., Rodrigo took acting, voice and piano lessons at an early age. She learned how to play the guitar by the age of 12 and gained an interest in songwriting after listening to country music, with Swift being a favorite choice. Rodrigo also took an interest in rock music thanks to her parents frequently playing music from their favorite bands like Green Day, Pearl Jam, No Doubt and The White Stripes.

Olivia Rodrigo made her major acting debut in 2016 on Bizaardvark, a Disney comedy series. Several years later in 2019, she got the lead role as Nini on the Disney+ series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Rodrigo held a lead role in the show for two seasons and became a recurring character in the third season, at which time she was making the transition to focus on her music career.

Music Career Highlights

Rodrigo’s second lead single, “deja vu” dropped in April 2021, landing an initial spot at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The rising pop singer would break another record with this track, becoming the first artist to have their first two releases within the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Her third single, “Good 4 U,” came out a week before the release of her debut album, Sour. Robin Murray, a Clash critic, remarked on Rodrigo’s success, calling her “one of Generation Z’s finest artists,” which was further proven when Time named her as the 2021 Entertainer of the Year.

In 2022, Rodrigo won her first three Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance. She also earned four other Grammy nominations including Album of the Year and Best Music Video.

In early September, her sophomore album, GUTS, was released. The album was precluded by the lead singles “vampire,” “bad idea right?” and “get him back!” With this new record, Rodrigo wanted to portray the end of her teenage years and the maturity she developed as she expanded her career and life. Compared to the melancholic tones of Sour, GUTS features more rock influences and “aggressive statements about being edgy and grown.” (Billboard 2023) Rodrigo is also set to perform at the tenth annual iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in December, along with other stars like Doechii, OneRepublic, Sabrina Carpenter and Pentatonix.
