Festival Guide: 2023 Country Roots Festival in KC

Grab your cowboy boots and a couple of friends, Country Roots Festival is coming to Kansas City and is bringing a star-studded lineup to Legends Field. Headliners for this one-day festival include Chris Young, Trace Adkins and Gabby Barrett. Other acts like Clay Walker, Jo Dee Messina and Lonestar will also grace the stage.

This is the inaugural year of the Country Roots Festival, which is produced by Kustom 440. It is scheduled for May 13 in Kansas City, Kan. Let’s take a closer look at the lineup and experience you can expect at Kansas City’s next big country music festival. 

Country Roots Festival KC Lineup

Multi-platinum recording artist Chris Young is first on the Country Roots Festival lineup. He released his self-titled debut album in 2006 and it reached No. 3 on the US Country charts. His 2015 album I’m Comin’ Over peaked at No. 1 and 2017’s Losing Sleep followed suit. His most recent release, Famous Friends came out in 2021 and debuted at No. 3. Young is a member of the Grand Ole Opry with hits like “Drinkin’ Me Lonely,” “Tomorrow,” “I Can Take it From There” and “Aw Naw.”

Trace Adkins has sold more than 11 million albums across his 25-plus-year career. He debuted in 1996 with Dreamin’ Out Loud which featured his first No. 1 hit “This Ain’t (No Thinkin’ Thing.)” His most recent album, The Way I Wanna Go, was released in 2021 and featured collaborations with a diverse group of artists including Blake Shelton, Snoop Dogg, Melissa Etheridge and Stevie Wonder. 

Gabby Barrett is one of the newest artists on the lineup having released her debut album in 2020. Her first single, “I Hope” was released the previous year and reached No. 1 on the US Country Songs chart. She repeated the feat with “The Good Ones.” Both are multi-platinum. Barrett has given birth to two children since her debut but is back on the road with Kane Brown this summer. She will also appear at the Stagecoach Festival.

Clay Walker, Jo Dee Messina and Lonestar will round out the 2023 Country Roots Festival lineup. Messina will make the stop as part of her Heads Carolina, Tails California Tour which started Feb. 17 and runs through Nov. 11. Where is Country Roots Festival in KC?

Legends Field in Kansas City, Kan., will host Country Roots Festival. Legends Field is home to the American Association’s Kansas City Monarchs baseball team. In the past few years, it has also become a popular location for music festivals including Phase Fest and the Tacos and Tequila Festival. Those are scheduled for June 16 and 17, respectively.

When Do Gates Open for Country Roots?

Gates open at 1 p.m. CST for Country Roots Festival. Guests must be 21 or older with a valid government-issued ID to attend the event. Re-entry will not be allowed during the festival.
