The 50th annual American Music Awards (AMA) took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles this week. The night was filled with plenty of awards and performances celebrating fan-favorite artists and groups of the year such as Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, BTS, and Wizkid

Take a look at these 2022 American Music Award winners and nominees that are going on tour in the new year.

Artist of the Year: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift swept in and stole the spotlight with six wins in all of her nominated categories. With the release of her new album Midnights and the announcement of her highly-anticipated The Eras Tour, Swift took home the crowning honor of Artist of the Year, along with awards for Favorite Music Video, Favorite Female Pop Artist, and others. With 40 awards in total, Taylor Swift has become the most decorated artist in AMA history.

New Artist of the Year: Dove Cameron

This singer rose to fame as an actress in several Disney Channel TV shows and movies. In 2019, she landed a record deal with Disruptor and Columbia Records, which launched her music career. “Boyfriend” is Cameron’s first non-soundtrack hit single which went viral on TikTok and peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. You can see Dove Cameron live at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball alongside other 2022 AMA nominees like Lizzo, Dua Lipa, and The Kid LAROI.

Favorite Male Latin Artist: Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny snagged the award for Favorite Male Latin Artist, beating out J Balvin and Farruko. The “LA CANCIÓN” and “Me Porto Bonito” singer ended up taking home two awards out of his eight nominations. Bad Bunny’s fifth studio album, Un Verano Sin Ti, has been certified platinum and his success continues to prove how Latin stars are making waves in the music industry.

Favorite Afrobeats Artist: Wizkid

Wizkid, a rising star in the modern Afrobeats scene, won Favorite Afrobeats Artist and Favorite R&B Song with his single “Essence” ft. Tems. The twice-Grammy-nominated “Essence” became an international hit after its release in November 2021. It also became the first Nigerian song to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Don’t miss out on seeing this Afrobeats pioneer rock the stage when he sets out on his More Love, Less Ego Tour taking place next spring.

Other Notable Wins

While “Break My Soul” may not have taken the award for Favorite R&B Song, the Beyhive had a reason to celebrate when Beyonce’s Renaissance beat out Silk Sonic, Drake, and The Weeknd for Favorite R&B Album. A special mention needs to be made for Elton John, who earned his first AMA win since 1988 for his collaboration with Dua Lipa on the single, “Cold Heart – PNAU Remix.” Another highlight,  K-Pop favorite BTS took home the award for Favorite Pop Duo or Group, surpassing artists like Imagine Dragons and Italian rock band, Måneskin.
