Later completed with the addition of Jose "Chapy" Luna and Nick Zamora on percussion, Cory Wilson on saxophone and Kam Franklin on lead vocals, this ten-piece band utilized a spectrum of styles to create their own signature Gulf Coast soul sound. Consisting of a significant dose of soul, along with splashes of reggae, jazz, salsa, rock 'n' roll, hip hop and funk, it would not take long for them to become a staple of the robust Houston music-scene, as The Suffers tickets quickly became a must-have among Houstonians.
For about two years they opted to get involved in whatever opportunities the city had to offer, from the smallest of club gigs to the biggest of festivals. Finally, by 2015, The Suffers exploded onto the national scene with their spectacular EP, Make Some Room, which was followed by their critically acclaimed self-titled debut in 2016. Word about the group was quickly spreading, earning coverage in The New York Times, Paste and Spin, and taking home 11 trophies at the Houston Press Music Awards.
