The Lettermen's big break came in 1961 after releasing their hit single, "The Way You Look Tonight." The song peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. In 1962, the song was nominated for a Grammy Award for the Best Performance by a Vocal Group. In addition, The Lettermen received a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist that same year.

In 1962, The Lettermen released their album, Once Upon a Time, which received another Grammy Nomination for Best Performance by a Vocal Group in 1963. In 1969, The Lettermen performed at a concert against indecency alongside famous artists Jackie Gleason, Anita Bryant and Kate Smith. The show garnished support from President Nixon. The Lettermen performed at The Lettermen Society Convention in 2012 and 2013.
