Although the band's name is closely connected to the word "spleen," in the sense of depression and despair, Splean has many paradoxical lyrics in their music. Their song, "Sugar-Free Orbit," is a story of a suicidal heartbroken young lady, who after some time, decided she was okay and just chewed her bubble gum.
Splean has released multiple studio albums, including their debut LP Dusty Fact in 1994, Unplugged in 2002 and Sneakingly in 2019. A couple of their songs have appeared in the soundtracks of films, including the song "Life Line" heard in the crime-thriller Brother 2 in 2000, and in 2004, their song "Be My Shadow" featured in the film Night Watch. The band has toured worldwide, including the United States, Israel, Europe, and their home country Russia. In 1998, Splean opened for The Stones at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium and was also the top attraction at the Krylya rock festival and Nashestvie.
