Banding together at the start of the millennium, Taiwanese indie group sodagreen put itself firmly on the radar of listeners with two consecutive winning entries in the Golden Melody Cup in 2001 and 2002. Distilling a myriad of influences from rock and pop into their music, the band put together a self-titled debut album, which was eventually released in 2005. Yielding the hit single “oh oh oh oh…”, which reached number 15 on Hong Kong’s 903 radio chart, the LP resulted in multiple Golden Melody Awards nominations for the group, although they would not win until the following year’s ceremony, in which their next album, Little Universe, received two awards and was shortlisted in a further four categories.
The group’s third LP, Incomparable Beauty, arrived in 2007, and they subsequently made history as the first alternative act to play the Taipei Arena.
By 2009, the group had embarked on a new mission entitled the Vivaldi Project, which entailed recording a four-part series of concept albums centred around the seasons. However, following the release of the first two instalments, band member A-Gong conscripted into the army and the project was halted. Following his return in 2011, the group shared an introspective new album entitled What is Troubling You?, which spawned their first 903 chart-topper in the form of its title track and continued to further the group’s reputation among Mandarin-speaking audiences.
Revisiting the Vivaldi Project at the height of their career, the group released an autumn-themed album in 2013, completing the saga with a winter edition in 2015 off the back of their tenth anniversary world tour.
After calling an indefinite hiatus in 2017 to focus on their solo careers, the band regrouped in 2020 under the new alias Oaeen. Grab your tickets now so you don’t miss seeing Sodagreen live!
