The team was founded in 1972. The Musketeers first appeared in the playoffs in the 1974-1975 season losing in the Division finals to the Waterloo Black Hawks 1-2. Sioux City made its first finals appearance in the 1977-1978 season after beating the Green Bay Bobcats in the semifinals 4-1 but losing to the Waterloo Black Hawks again, this time in the championship finals.
