He also founded the jam band Hot Club of Nashville, which combined western swing with gypsy jazz and featured a rotating lineup of prominent artists like Stuart Duncan, Bryan Sutton and Pat Bergeson, among others. Smith has been widely praised for his facility in styles as diverse as jazz, classical and ragtime music.
