They produced their first full-length album in 2007, Up and Down the River. The band’s lineup originally included Nate Sipe on mandolin, Kevin Kniebel on banjo, J. Lenz on guitar, Justin Bruhn on bass, and Matt Cartier who plays clog and fiddle. The guys started touring around America and kept recording Needle & Thread (2008) and Out on a Spree (2009). In that time, they performed on A Prairie Home Companion and won a Band Competition in North Plains, Ore. In 2011, the Pert Near Sandstone released one of its most successful albums to date, Paradise Hop. 

Critics from all over the country reacted positively to this album. It reached No. 7 on the eMusic downloads. The hit single “Solid Gone” was on top of Minnesota Public Radios “The Chart Show” for four weeks and was number 25 on The Troubadour’s Road Top 25 Songs of the Year. The guys released The Hardest Part of Leaving in 2014 and Discovery of Honey in 2016. They mix fingerstyle blues with the ballad lyrics and dance tunes integral to bluegrass.
