Their music is considered a mix of indie-folk, pop-rock and, at times, contemporary Christian. Their debut full-length album, Tenboom released in 2013, which contained music best described as soulful folk, had its title named in honor of Corrie ten Boom, a Christian who assisted in the escape of many Jewish people during the Holocaust.

That album was followed in 2014 by Struggle Pretty and multiple other LPs, including Wendigo in 2017, in which the album’s title has the same name as a fabled shapeshifter. Penny and Sparrow suggest that listeners can utilize the music as a flashlight in the dark to see what you should fear or see what had beauty all along. Penny and Sparrow have toured extensively across the United States and Canada and have appeared at music festivals such as Americanafest, the Moon River Music Festival and Folks Festival, among others.
