Before his success as a solo musician, Paul Overstreet founded and performed with the band S-K-O. Additionally, his early years as a songwriter led to him co-writing 27 Top Ten songs. Two of those songs received Grammy Awards and the ACM and CMA Song of the Year Awards.

From 1987 to 1991, Paul consecutively won the BMI Songwriter of the Year, a feat that had never previously been achieved. Some of the most notable songs that he co-wrote include "Forever and Ever, Amen," "Love Can Build a Bridge," "Some Beach," "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and "A Long Line of Love."

Additionally, Paul Overstreet tickets gained popularity in 1988 when he first became a singer. His debut hit single, "Beautiful Baby," reached No. 76 on the country charts that same year.

In 1988, Paul Overstreet became a solo artist and released Love Helps Those, which peaked at No. 3 on the US Country charts and No. 9 on CAN Country. His second solo album, Sowin' Love, made it to the Top 10 hits on country charts for "Seein' My Father in Me," "Richest Man on Earth," "All the Fun" and "Love Helps Those."

Overstreet garnished further success with the release of Heroes in 1990. The album included the hit track "Daddy's Come Around," which peaked at the No. 1 spot in the charts. Other hit singles from the album include "Ball and Chain" and "Heroes," which reached the Top Tens. 

In 1992, Paul Overstreet released Love is Strong, which included "Me and My Baby," which peaked at No. 22. The hit single, "There But for the Grace of God Go I," won a Dove Award for Country Recorded Song of the Year at the 24^th GMA Dove Awards.
