In Nashville, McLaughlin started a band, releasing their debut album in 1980. They then made two more recordings with Capitol Records as well the album Pat McLaughlin in 1988. In that same year, his song “Lynda,” sung by Steve Wariner hit number one in the Billboard Country Charts and won McLaughlin his first BMI Country Award.
