The men’s wrestling program is the fourth most decorated wrestling program in the country.

Wrestling got its start in 1920, under head coach Dewey Luster. The team initially struggled, with no coaching having a winning record until Leigh Wallace, who coached from 1925 through 1927, compiling a 9-7 record in his tenure. And then coach Paul V. Keen took the reins, coaching from 1928 to 1939. During his time with the Sooners, Keen led the team to a 51-34-3 record. In addition to that, he led the team to six conference championships and its first National Championship in 1936.

The team also boasts over 275 All-Americans and more than 65 individual national champions, including Lawrence Mantooth, who won the national championship at 125 pounds in 1929 and 1930.
