Nap Eyes is a Canadian rock band from Nova Scotia made up of members Seamus Dalton, Josh Salter, Brad Loughead and Nigel Chapman. Nap Eyes formed in 2011 as an expansion of what had been Chapman’s solo project, The Mighty Northumberland. With Dalton and Salter filling out the lineup, the band released their debut album The Whine of the Mystic in 2014 through You’ve Changed Records.
Originally a traditional indie rock band, Nap Eyes began experimenting with slower and more contemplative psychedelic elements on their sophomore album Thought Rock Fish Scale, released in 2016. They began touring widely in support of the album, playing shows across the US, Canada and Europe. Later that year Thought Rock Fish Scale was nominated for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize.
Nap Eyes again began experimenting with new styles in 2018, releasing their more upbeat and fast-paced album I’m Bad Now that year. Their most recent album, Snapshot of a Beginner, saw the band return to a sound closer to their roots. They have been widely praised for their proficiency in both musically complex and more simple, mainstream rock styles.
