In 1992, Mix Master Mike got his big break after winning the 1992 New Music Seminar/Supermen Inc. DJ Battle for World Supremacy. He was the first DJ from the west coast to ever take the title.
In 1995, Mix Master Mike and DJ Qbert became judges for the 1995 DMC Championships after retiring from competitive turntablism. Meanwhile, Mix Master Mike worked with fellow DJs on their albums, including Wave Twisters with Qbert.
Mix Master Mike tickets soared in popularity after earning the lifetime achievement award, Grand Wizzard Theodore, from the International Turntablist Federation. Soon after, Mix Master Mike collaborated with other famous musicians and bands, including Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie and Tommy Lee.
However, Mix Master Mike quickly became best known for his work with hip-hop band the Beastie Boys. Between 1998 and 2011, Mix Master Mike helped produce three albums with the Beastie Boys, Hello Nasty (1998), To The 5 Boroughs (2005) and Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (2011).
During that time, Mix Master Mike worked on his solo music. He released several popular albums, including Anti-Theft Device, Eye of the Cyklops, Spin Psycle, Return of the Cyklops and Bangzilla.
In 2011, Mix Master Mike performed on Swizz Beatz, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Conan. He joined hip-hop group Cypress Hill in 2018 and performed with the band at Vancouver's 420 Cannabis Festival in 2019.
