The six-member band Mama Magnolia first started to jam together in 2013 while attending the University of Denver, in the music program. In 2016, they released their debut EP, Something about Fire, released independently.
The band is fronted by lead singer and keyboardist Megan Letts. Also in the band is Thomas Jennings on guitar, bassist and backup vocalist Zachary Jackson and drummer Jackson Hillmer along with Carrie McCune, who plays trumpet and sings and saxophonist Alex Cazet. The band together has a retro rock and roll sound along with an energetic horn section, and just a hint of jazz.
Enjoy an emerging Denver band with Mama Magnolia tickets. The band recorded their next self-titled EP in 2018, with Mike Yach and Steven Vidaic, who are Grammy Award-winning engineers and producers. Each track was performed together to help retain the live feel of their music. Two singles have been spawned off it, with “Half His Heart,” which looks for the good in everyone and the simmering groove song “Ain’t Your Mama.”
The band has performed with acts such as the California Honeydrops and Marco Benevento. The band has been praised by the Denver Post, Sound Fix, The Grateful Web and others for their soulful sound.
