Led by frontman Jon Micah Sumrall and guitarist James Mead, Kutless is a Christian hard-rock band that formed in 1999, while the group's members were college students in Portland, Oregon. The group originally went by the name Call Box but renamed themselves Kutless in 2001 before releasing their first Eps. The band's self-titled debut was released in 2002 that featured the group's first singles "Rain" and "Your Touch". Beginning with 2004's Sea of Faces, Kutless' albums routinely cracked the Top 5 of Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart, with 2005's gold-selling Strong Tower marking the group's best-selling album to date. This was followed by Hearts of the Innocent (2006), To Know That You're Alive (2008) and It Is Well (2009). Kutless earned their first chart-topping Christian single, "What Faith Can Do," in 2009, and spent the following decade weathering a handful of lineup changes, none of which did much to dampen the success of releases like 2012's Believer, 2014's Glory, 2015's Surrender or 2017's Alpha / Omega.
