While attending East Tennessee State University she began writing songs, and in 2004 she formed the Americana duo The Everybodyfields with guitarist Sam Quinn after the pair met while working at the same summer camp in 1999. After the group disbanded in 2009 she issued a self-titled solo EP.
Two years later she released The Mirror, a collection of songs that retained her folk and country background while simultaneously embracing a poppier approach. 2015’s The War Inside was an even greater sonic stretch and boasted a social media hit with “I’m So in Love with You”, a duet with The Avett Brothers Seth Avett. She enjoyed another online hit with a 2016 single collaboration with Langhorne Slim, “Sea of Love”. She formed another duo, Hush Kids with Peter Groenwald in 2018, but returned to a solo career in 2020 with Thirties, her most autobiographical album so far.
