The Great Lakes Invitational Hockey Tickets

Come see the best teams in hockey compete with the Great Lakes Invitational tickets. The four-team invitational tournament Great Lakes Invitational is held annually and is competed by NCAA men’s ice hockey teams. The tournament first took place at Olympia Stadium from 1965 to 1978 and then moved to the Joe Louis Arena for a number of years.

The event originated as the result of a conversation between Lincoln Cavalieri, the manager of Olympia Stadium and John MacInnes, coach of Michigan Tech’s ice hockey team and Jack Peterson, a talent scout for the Detroit Wings. The subject had been the NHL’s lack of American players and the need for a showcase for their talent. Jack Tompkins, Vice President of American Airlines, former goalie for the University of Michigan and member of the Detroit Red Wings, was instrumental in bringing the vision to life.
