They take their name from the popular frozen treat and have enjoyed considerable success in video games. Their work has appeared in titles such as Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution. They retain a devoted cult following on college campuses in and around Boston.
Freezepop was founded in Boston in 1999 by members Justinne Gamache, Sean Drinkwater and Kasson Crooker. The lineup now also includes Robert Foster and Christmas Sagan. They quickly established their signature sound that involves lo-fi electronic elements, pop-rock riffs and song structure as well as upbeat, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. They released their debut album Freezepop Forever in 2000, followed by Fancy UltraFresh in 2004.
In addition to video games, the band’s songs have enjoyed extensive use on television, in particular on Mega64, The Hills and The L Word. In 2002 Freezepop won the American Synthpop Award for Best New Band, and in 2006 they won Best Dance/Electronica Song at the Independent Music Awards.
