After multiple name changes, the group landed on the current title in 1984 and has toured and performed under it ever since. The band relocated to California and began making a name for themselves with liver performances in clubs around the state before signing their first record deal with Metal Blade Records.
The band's debut album, Doomsday for the Deceiver, released in 1986, featuring "Hammerhead", one of the group's most popular songs to date. Their album was included on many best thrash album lists, including Loudwire's top ten list of "Thrash Albums NOT Released by the Big 4". The band signed to MCA Records in 1989, where they released their third album in 1990, When the Storm Comes Down, which garnered attention from MTV, who played their music video for "Suffer the Masses" on heavy rotation as a part of Headbanger's Ball.
