The inaugural Crunchyroll Expo was held in 2017 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, where it drew more than 15,000 attendees. Despite a handful of difficulties, the convention was a runaway success. Anime fans flocked to the expo’s numerous attractions, including video game rooms, discussion panels, the artists’ alley and a masquerade ball.
The Crunchyroll Expo moved to San Jose the following year, which became its permanent home. The convention saw a number of celebrity guests make an appearance, most notably Sean Schemmel of Dragon Ball Z fame and Stephanie Sheh from Naruto. Many components of the Crunchyroll Expo are live-streamed through the Twitch platform to make up the “Virtual Crunchyroll Expo” event series. Due to its growing popularity, recent years have seen the event expand into territories like the UK and Australia.
