After honing their sound as a local act, they signed with Indie label Joey Records in San Antonio, Texas in 1980. Their debut album was called “Barracho Y Loco.”  With Joey Records, they recorded popular covers such as “Noches Elemas,” “Paloma Queridas” and “La Sirenita” as well as songs that would go on to be fan favorites such as “10 Kilometros,” “Cuatro Primaveras” and the title track from “Borracho Y Loco.”

Changes came in the mid-1980s when the group started to record romantic ballads featuring saxophone and electric keyboard.  This would become their distinctive sound. The lead singer Nacho Galindo left the group to become a Christian singer in 1988 after recording the album “Andos Sin Finos,” which was released in 1989. He was replaced by 18-year-old Tony Melendez.  The first album with Melendez as lead singer was “Me Voy, Me Voy.”

Along with their commercial success, they have received critical acclaim.  They have had many Latin Grammy nominations, culminating in receiving the Billboard Latin Music  Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. The group also won the Latin Grammy Best Norteno Album award for “Amor Amor” in 2014.
