In 2000 Meloy formed The Decemberists with friends and fellow musicians Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee and Nate Query. For a number of years the band released music through various crowdfunding platforms, then in 2005 released its major-label debut The Crane Wife through Capitol Records. By 2006 The Crane Wife had been listed as NPR’s favorite album of the year–it remains one of the band’s most critically acclaimed albums. The Decemberists have since risen to become one of the darlings of the folk-rock scene.
