Formed in 2009 by three childhood and college friends, Clipping started out as a fun hobby that turned into a genuine music career. William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes began combining a cappella style of rap artists with noise remixes and power electronics to make their own creations. A year later in 2010, Daveed Diggs joined them and started writing his own raps to lay over their pieces.

After a few years of experimenting, they self-released midcity, which got a much better reception than they had expected and led to them signing with Sub Pop just five months later. In 2014, their second album CLPPNG came out and solidified their specialty of harsh and abrasive, yet strangely appealing, rap music, featuring real-life sounds such as shattering bottles and breaking bricks. Their next album, Splendor & Misery, features a science fiction theme and was nominated for the 2017 Hugo Awards category of Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form). Their drama and excitement is unmistakable onstage, and you can experience it for yourself with Clipping tickets.
