Released in May of 2012, the album was surprisingly well-received, eventually even accruing over 3 million streams on Spotify. In 2013, the band would invite drummer Sam McCullough to join their outfit, and just in time to have him play on their sophomore album, 2014’s Long Story Short. Soon after releasing their 2015 EP, Lost on Main, Boy Named Banjo finally found their last missing piece in bassist Ford Garrard, who provided a crucial rock background that has been paramount to the group’s evolving style. Though staying rooted to their acoustic foundation, their expanding and diverse ensemble has allowed the band's sound to mature along with them, transforming them into the energetic and fun blend of country, alt-rock, and folk-pop that has made them so popular today.
