He is best known for his appearance in the movie Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, where he played gang leader Zed as well as his HBO standup special An Evening with Bobcat Goldthwait: Share the Warmth in 1987.
Goldthwait decided when he was very young that he wanted to be a comedian and would host standup shows frequently in grade school. In the audience was future voice actor Tom Kenny. After high school, Kenny and Goldthwait formed the comedy troupe The Generic Comics. The two happened to go to an amateur mic night that featured the standup comedian Barry Crimmins, who called himself “Bear Cat”. Goldthwait and Kenny paid homage to Crimmins by calling themselves “Bobcat” and “Tomcat.” He also co-wrote material with Martin Olson, who is listed on his early standup specials.
