Babasonicos was founded in 1991 in Buenos Aires, taking its name from a reference to the Indian spiritual teacher Sai Baba. The members bonded over their shared vision of playing a new style of rock music that combines psychedelic, experimental and pop elements. They released their debut album Pasto in 1992.
In 1994 Babasonicos released their sophomore effort Trance Zomba, which featured contributions by DJ Peggyn. The album would prove the first in a string of collaborations that would last nearly a decade. Despite the underground success, however, the band labored in mainstream obscurity until the release of Jessico in 2001.
Jessico contained a string of hit singles, most notably “El Loco,” “Delectrico” and “Los Calientes.” In the years that followed, Babasonicos would rise to the level of rock icons in their native country.
