Amahl and The Night Visitors Opera Tickets
Enjoy an exquisite night of opera with Amahl and The Night Visitors tickets. Amahl and The Night Visitors is a one-act opera written in the late 1940s by Gian Carlo Menotti. It premiered at the NBC Opera Theatre in 1951 and was the first opera to be written specifically for television.
NBC commissioned Menotti to write Amahl and The Night Visitors in the late 1940s, though Menotti struggled to find a subject for the opera that he found suitable. After a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the composer found inspiration in Hieronymus Bosch’s painting The Adoration of the Magi. The plot of Amahl and The Night Visitors centers around a crippled boy Amahl who witnesses the birth of Christ and is miraculously healed after offering the newborn a gift.
Upon the opera’s televised premiere in 1951, it attracted more than five million viewers. Amahl and The Night Visitors quickly became a Christmas tradition, and until 1966 was broadcast every Christmas Eve on NBC. Critics continue to regard the opera as one of the greatest works of Menotti’s career. Do not miss out on the next performance of this celebrated piece.
