Lopez-Gavilan was born to a family of musicians. He began studying piano at the age of four and wrote his first composition at the age of five. He debuted professionally at the age of 12, performing alongside the Matanzas Symphony Orchestra, later performing with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Cuba.
