The first Holiday Brass Concert was performed in St. Louis, Missouri, and was organized by Susan Slaughter, a retired principal trumpet of the St. Louis Symphony. The purpose of the start of this event was to bring attention to the first International Women’s Brass Conference. The Holiday Brass Concert takes place during the month of December to celebrate the Christmas Spirit. Many different artists participate in this event and play songs that represent Christmas.
The Holiday Brass Concert features Handel’s Baroque grandeur or Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride. Some other songs that are played during the Holiday Brass Concert include "Sevivon," "Joy," "Silent Night," "The Wexford Carol," and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." The concert does not just take place in St. Louis, but it has also taken place in Virginia and Baltimore. In Virginia, the event takes place at the Chesapeake Conference Center and features the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. The San Francisco Symphony has also been featured in the Holiday Brass Concert.
