Szeps-Znaider is a conductor and violinist from Denmark known for his work with the London Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, among others. He was born in 1975 in Copenhagen and went on to study the violin under famed musicians Boris Kuschnir and Milan Vitek. Szeps-Znaider rose to attention in 1992 when he won the first prize at the Carl Nielsen International Music Competition. He later won both the Queen Elizabeth and International Jean Sibelius Violin Competitions before attending the Juilliard School of Music.
In addition to violin, Szeps-Znaider trained in conducting under Sir Colin Davis and served in his first guest-conducting posts with the Mariinsky Theatre and Swedish Chamber Orchestras. In 2018 he became the music director for the Orchestre National de Lyon and has since released a number of landmark recordings with world-class orchestras.
Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider served as the founder and artistic director for the Nordic Music Academy for a decade before becoming president of the Carl Nielsen Competition and a visiting professor at London’s Royal Academy of Music.
