After being picked up by Columbia Records, he released his major-label debut 'Young Man' in 2004. Commercial success was hard to come by and Ingram was subsequently dropped without a follow-up.

He was later picked up by Taylor Swift's former label Big Machine Records, owned by Scott Borchetta, and it was with them that the Texan established himself as a household name, giving the label its first number-one single in 2006 with his release 'Wherever You Are', the lead single from his album of the same name. In 2008, Ingram won Top New Male Vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards, despite having been a performer for almost 15 years. After a number of top 20 singles over the following years, he amicably parted ways with Big Machine and continues to record and release music. His latest album, 'Ridin' High... Again' was released in April 2019.
