Rising out of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, the beginnings of Broken Past started in 2015. Bassist Tony Rodriguez is responsible for the band’s inception that started in his garage. After participating in bands during his youth, a stint as a traveling assistant in the music industry motivated him to leave his tattoo shop and build out a hardcore metal band.
After returning to music, Rodriguez’s garage transformed over time from a place for jamming to a place for practice. Broken Past would tinker around with its lineup for a bit before settling in with Frank Acee (vocals), Wayne White (guitar) and Bryan Stager (drums) joining Rodriguez. The band grew their name around New Jersey and Broken Past tickets took off as they became known for high-energy songs that take influence from acts like Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica and DIO. In 2019, the band released its debut EP entitled Time for Change, which made critics outside the New Jersey area start to pay attention.
