The play is set in a once-thriving small town that has seen its cherished steel mills shut down. Depressed and directionless, six friends and former steelworkers lament their lack of prospects together. After seeing their wives' enthusiasm for a male stripper performance at the local bar, leading man Jerry decides that his and his friends’ futures can be saved. He persuades the reluctant group of men to form their own strip-tease act, and hilarity ensues.

Over the course of the musical, the men go back and forth between excitement and despair, with various members of the group bemoaning their body weight and other flaws as they prepare their act for the town. The Full Monty tickets offer a night full of hilarious song and dance numbers, as well as heartfelt reflections on friendship and courage.

The play’s title comes from the men’s commitment to go “the full monty,” or completely nude. They hope that by taking their act one step further than the Chippendales, they can take the town by storm and at last make a living.

The Full Monty opened on Broadway in 2000 and at London’s West End in 2002. It won the Best Musical Award at the London Evening Standard Theatre.
