The band faced obstacles however, as their guitarist Zach Doe left shortly afterward. The remaining members (Ray and Brandon Carlisle) joined forces with new guitarist Joel Pattinson before releasing their first full-length LP Another Way in 2003. Eventually Pattinson too left the band. It wasn’t until after a 2004 tour that Teenage Bottlerocket took its final form with the brothers’ old friend Kody Templeman on guitar.

The band got attention after releasing their first debut full-length Total in 2005. They were offered a spot on the Vans Warped Tour and from there began touring consistently. Their first music video for the song “In the Basement” was released in 2007. Signing with Fat Wreck Chords two years later, they released their hit albums They Came From the Shadows and Freak Out! through the label. Teenage Bottlerocket’s sound has been described as “pop-punk” and “Ramones-esque.” The band tends not to experiment, preferring instead to perfect their original sound. In 2015 the band’s drummer, Brandon Carlisle, passed away. The band currently consists of Ray Carlisle on guitar and vocals, Kody Templeman on guitar and vocals, Miguel Chen on bass and Darren Chewka on drums. The band released their first album since the incident—Stay Rad!—in 2019. They continue to stay true to their roots and have been called “the best punk band from the Cowboy State.”
