Spencer Petersen and Thomas Carroll both grew up in Utah and met in Los Angeles. Much of the group’s identity is founded on the tension between the two places. Their name comes from the state flower of Utah, the Sego Lily. Petersen and Carroll were originally in the band Eyes Lips Eyes, however, once the band relocated to Los Angeles, they disbanded. and the break up led to the creation of Sego. Their debut album, Long Long Way from the Fringe, was released in 2015 and included tracks like "Fool Around" and "The Fringe."
