Born in 1976 in San Juan, Zenon began learning to play the saxophone at ten years old. He was later admitted to the prestigious Escuela Libre de Musica, where he trained in classical saxophone for six years under Angel Marrero. In 1996 Zenon moved to Boston to continue his studies at the Berklee College of Music.
Zenon earned an advanced degree in performance from the Manhattan School of Music before working as a session musician in New York City. His time as a session musician would see him work with high-profile artists including Kurt Elling, Miles Okazaki and Brian Lynch, among many others.
In 1999 the saxophonist founded the Miguel Zenon Quartet, playing at a slew of prominent venues in New York City like the C Note and the Jazz Gallery. Over the course of the next decade, Zenon would earn eight separate Grammy Award nominations and four Latin Grammy nominations. He has won several Jazz Artist of the Year awards from the Jazz Times and the Jazz Journalist Association.
