Growing up in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, Donnie started performing at a young age reciting the tunes of Frank Sinatra in local talent shows at only 8. As he grew his tastes developed as legends like Elvis Presley became his first inspiration. The Donnie Iris style takes hints of the Beatles and The Rolling Stones with a twist of R&B like Ray Charles. Moving from singer to guitarist to drummer and back again Iris would perform for multiple bands over his career. The first major one was the Jaggerz who is best known for producing the #2 Billboard hit, “The Rapper”. Donnie later moved on to play with the band Wild Cherry for their fourth and final album. Wild Cherry is best known for their #1 hit “Play That Funky Music”.

Eventually, Donnie Iris tickets became a reality as he started his own band in 1980 with his band the Cruisers. Their first album Back on the Streets was released in July of that year on the Midwest Records label. It would help Iris maintain his notoriety with the song “Ah! Leah!” reaching the #29 spot on the Billboard charts. The follow-up album King Cool was also highly praised with songs like “Sweet Merilee” and “My Girl”. The lineup of the Cruisers has changed numerous times over the years and Donnie Iris still tours predominantly around the northeast and Midwest areas of the United States.
