In 2007 the band split up, and Mendoza formed a musical duo with former bandmate Jesús Alberto Miranda, calling themselves Chino & Nacho. Their first album, Época de Reyes, was released in 2008 and gained popularity in much of Latin America. They released five albums together, eventually claiming international success and winning a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Album.
In 2016, Nacho traveled to Venezuela to perform at a concert supporting a jailed opposition leader but was initially denied entry. He became a political activist and denounced the Venezuelan administration for mass corruption and the treatment of citizens during an economic crisis. He spoke at the Venezuelan National Assembly and continues to protest the injustices of his home country.
Nacho launched his solo career in 2017, hoping to spend more time with his four children. His debut single and accompanying music video, “Bailame”, reached a million views the day it was released. The single charted on the Top 20 Hot Latin Songs, and he performed it at the annual Premios Juventud Awards. Chino & Nacho reunited in March 2020, although Nacho continues his solo career.
