Born in Queens, NY, Earl collected blues, jazz, rock and soul records from an early age but didn’t develop a serious interest in performing until seeing the iconic Muddy Waters in concert during his college years. He took on a job as a guitarist at The Speakeasy, a music club in Cambridge, MA before starting to travel through cities like Chicago, New Orleans and Austin and spending time with the likes of Jimmie Vaughan, Koko Taylor and Kim Wilson of The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
In 1979, Earl joined Roomful of Blues, a blues and swing revival group, as lead guitarist with whom he performed for nearly a decade. He began performing solo in the mid-80s and formed his band, The Broadcasters. The Broadcasters featured a number of prominent musicians at different stages of time like Jerry Portnoy, Darrell Nulisch and Gregg Allman. He released a number of albums including 1991’s I Like It When It Rains and 1996’s Eye to Eye, the latter of which featured Pinetop Perkins, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith and Calvin “Fuzz” Jones. His 24th album, Rise Up, was released in 2020 featuring songs like “Albert’s Stomp” and “Blues for Lucky Peterson”.
