The Canadian rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 2010. Founding members Nestor Chumak, Steve Sladkowski and Zack Mykula are childhood friends who played in several bands together during their younger years. The trio met lead guitarist Stefan Babcock in a chance encounter at a local Toronto music venue. The group recorded their first EP titled “Topanga,” and later retitled “Lionheart,” in December 2010. In the beginning, the group didn’t look at themselves as “a real band,” but after the release of the debut EP, the band began performing live together and once their EP began to gain traction online, they started to receive more and more show offers. By 2012 they were touring Canada and working on their debut full-length album.

The band released its debut album in October 2013 to great acclaim and PUP tickets became a hot commodity. The Calgary Herald named PUP one of Canada’s best new bands. Stereogum listed them as one of the top 40 new bands of 2013 and they would go on to be nominated for several awards.

PUP embarked on their first headlining tour of Canada and the United States in 2014 to sold-out crowds, officially making their presence known in the world of punk rock.  By 2017, PUP was making appearances at several major music festivals like Shaky Knees and Lollapalooza. The band has also enjoyed major critical success, winning several awards like the Juno Award and the Polaris Music Prize.

Today, they continue to enjoy mainstream success with the release of their most recent album titled “Morbid Stuff,” which was released in April 2019.
